Bioloid Expert Kit ($3500) Giveaway Contest

Summary:

To promote the new inventors section of our website, we're giving away a Bioloid Expert Kit ($3500) raffle style. The new section is a place where you can showcase projects and find others with similar interests or complementary skills.

The kit include 21 servos, wireless video and video processing software, zigbee wireless communication, hundreds of connecting pieces and much more. To enter, just create a profile and describe at least one project and include a picture.

The contest:
  • Ends on November 21st or when 500 people enter
  • First 50 get $10 coupons
  • A random entry gets the robot kit
  • Top voted project gets a $100 coupon

Update: Project Collage:

A new project page shows a collage of projects with pictures. So far, we've received a lot of robots, even a bipedal walking one, a SD card music player, some GPS devices, an automated beerpong playing robot complete with computer vision based aiming... DIY music enclosures, lots of microcontroller / embedded circuits, arduino, etc.

Including...
  • 21 Ax-12 servos: 16.5 kgf*cm holding torque at 10V, continuous rotation capable, .196s/60deg, daisy chain network communication (serial up to 1mbps), feedback includes position, temperature, load and input voltage.
  • 3 AX-S1 sensor modules: distance, brightness, heat, sound detection + remote control transceiver
  • 2 CM-5: Programmable controllers based on the ATmega128
  • 2 Zigbee Zig-100 wireless communication modules (computer to CM-5 or CM-5 to CM-5)
  • Wireless Camera: 2.4 GHz, 1/3" Color CMOS, 380 horizontal lines, 5V powered... we got it to work at almost 100ft.
  • Vision Processing Software: The camera sends back images to the PC for processing, the PC sends commands back to the robot. Provided algorithms include edge detection, center of mass, movement detection and more.

Contest Directions / Rules:

  • Make a profile in our new inventors section.
  • Once your profile is created, create a new project and upload at least one picture of it.
  • The project:
    • Should, at a minimum, explain what it does and how it works.
    • The picture needs be one of your project, and not something that could apply to anything.
  • We'll be giving away $10 coupons to the first 50 people that enter and submit approved projects.
  • The project that gets the most votes (coming soon!) at the end will receive a $100 coupon to our store.
  • Your text and pictures remain your property--we're trying to build a community, not pilfer one.
  • Software projects are OK!
Some more rules:
  • One entry / profile per person. The project description must be a legitimate project and must be approved by CuriousInventor staff before it is accepted as a valid contest entry. You will receive an email letting you know whether your description was accepted or not within 24-48 hours of creating it. The email will also ask for your phone number and address, but these will only be used for winning notification.
  • Projects must be your own and not copies from someone else. You are responsible for obeying copyright laws.
  • The contest ends on 11/21/2008 or when 500 people have entered, which ever comes first.
  • Questions can be emailed to support _at_ CuriousInventor.com
  • No Curious Inventor, LLC employees, family members of employees, or inventors already having kits manufactured by CuriousInventor.com are eligible.
  • International, HI and AK participants: If you win, you will be required to pay for all insured shipping costs and import duties and taxes. The prize will be shipped via fully insured FedEx, and weighs 35lbs. For reference, the shipping cost to the UK is $300. We will ship the prize for free within the continental US.
  • The winner will be notified by email and phone, and will have 4 days to respond before another random profile is chosen.
  • These rules may change without notification, although we may contact all participants via email regarding the changes.
  • All taxes are the responsibility of the winner. We will comply with all laws governing gifts and notify the IRS of the full prize amount and winner. If local laws prohibit any portion of this contest, you may be ineligible.
