Adding buttons to a mouse
by anonymous Feb 29 2008

Hey i stumbled on the site after some soldering issues i was having !
Im currently modding a mouse and was wondering if you might be able to answer a few questions.
Is it possible to add extra buttons to a regular 2 button mouse circuit board ? Im aware this would mean new drivers would be needed but is it actually possible to add extra buttons to a circuit board ?

Thanks for any help

If it’s a MS mouse, I wonder if they use the same circuit board for lots of different mice, but just don’t attach buttons to the cheaper models. If that was true, it might be easy. Otherwise… not sure

After some research it seems the best route to take is using a 7 button mouse, repositioning these buttons in order to fit the new casing, and then re-programming the buttons functions , for example changing a side button to a play function in WMP.
Does anybody know of software that would allow me to alter the function of a mouse button ?
