External Power Supply
by anonymous Jun 11 2008

Great kit, I’m having a lot of fun putting it together. I would like to have the option of running it from the battery or an external supply, what would be the best way to wire this up?

Thanks,
Tim

Im curious about this myself… any chance you can point us in the right direction so i can just omit the battery altogether?

get a 9v radioshack PS and maybe a Tube connector there and tap the battery terminals?

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, Tim, I missed this post.

The easiest thing to do would be to buy a regulated brick from RadioShack that has a 9V DC output. Then disconnect the battery wires from battery holder and re-attach to the power supply’s output. Sticking a panel-mount jack on the case would be even better.

I’ll see if I can whip up an “add-on” kit that has a panel mount jack and just such a power supply in the next couple days.

Be warned that a lot of the power bricks have very bouncy signals coming out, so you might want to put a rather large capacitor across the input, say 220uF electrolytic or higher, to smooth things out. Then again, the extra noise might sound cool.

Could you please go into to further detail on how to this. I am slightly nervous about power supplies, and I can’t find much information that gives me the confidence to do something like?
