Ok, i’ve got everything done except for wiring everything up, and i’m having a really hard time with this.I’m using 22 gauge stranded, and i’m finding it impossible to get the wire loops into the 1/8 jack pads.
Can anyone post pics or vids or…anything? I’m stuck :(
If that gauge wire doesn’t fit into the hole on the 1/8 jacks, you can just as well wrap / bend the wire around the legs and solder it like that.
maybe we should put a recommended wire size of 24 or higher.
let me know if that’s not the prob. or the wrap method doesn’t work. pictures coming later…
I’m just finding it impossible to do these…when mounted, they’re so close together i cant get any leverage to actually get them in the holes or work with them at all, and with the wire tinned, it wont fit anyway.
I guess i’ll go buy a smaller gauge wire :/
another kind of hacked solution would be to take some wire strippers the the bare wire bits and not squeeze too hard. you can get the strippers to cut away about 1/2 of the multi-stranded wire. If you are using single strand wire, i’d recommend you reconsider and buy smaller, multi-stranded wire. The single strand stuff tends to be too rigid and will break solder joints when moved around a lot.

Ok, i give up. Ive spent hours trying to do this, and all i’ve managed to do is melt wire insulation onto the fucking jacks.
Can i send this back and have one of you guys finish this? I’ll pay, but i’m ready to throw the fucking thing out of the window.
Sorry you’re having a hard time… I actually tried to solder some jacks with 22 AWG wire and, unless I read the number wrong, it should fit in the hole. Here are some close up pics showing the sequence:
If things still don’t work out, we can do some soldering for you, but it’d be less money to find the right wire or a friend than shipping things back and forth.
Hey man, can you send us a picture of what you have so far?
We’ll get it worked out.

Well, once i realized i’d melted a bit of the jacks, i said screw it and undid the 3 that i had done…they were barely held in there anyway. I think i just suck at this. I havent even tried the topmost loops…i was trying to do the ground plugs.
How much would it cost me anyway? I assume i’d need new jacks too.
Anyway, here’s pictures.

The jacks look like they’re still fine, actually. If you can just loop the wire through the hole and bend it back on itself like shown in the first pic of the previous post you’ll be good. It’s important to secure the wire before picking up the iron and solder. Use a screw driver or pliers to bend the ground tab up a little so it’s easier to get the wire through. Needle nose pliers are key. You could also unscrew the jacks, solder the wires to it, and then screw them back in place. The rest of the soldering looks fine.
If you think it’s going to be hopeless, you can mail it back and we’ll finish it up and test it for $40.

I was going to try unscrewing next. If that doesnt work, i think i’ll just send it in. Thanks for your help guys, sorry to be a pain.
This might be a stupid question, but how are you stripping the wire, and what are you using to do it? Make sure you strip away the insulation far enough back to give yourself room to work. you can always trim off the excess wire.*
Ok, here’s my progress thus far. Comments, critiques, or suggestions are welcome. So far, all the jacks have their ground wires done, as have the first row of LEDs, plus the power LED. I’ve left extra wire off the last ground, as i’ve yet to link them all to a single point.

Well, it’s finally finished, although when i was putting on the knobs, i noticed i was missing one. Can i pick one of these up at Radio Shack?
Here’s a small vid of it.

sweet, yeah, you should be able to get one at radio shack. If not, just write back and we’ll send you one.
