Soldering a PLCC (Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier)
The leads on a PLCC are called J-leads due to their shape. A brief summary of the steps is to flux the pads, tack two opposing corners, add more flux and then solder the rest of the pins.
Fluxing the pads of a PLCC before placing the chip.
Align the PLCC on the board.
tacking one corner of a PLCC
Adding flux to the pins of a PLCC
Soldering the first row of a PLCC
Finished Results:
Soldered PLCC joints before the flux has been cleaned off.
Ideal PLCC joint, flux cleaned off
next: soldering a QFP (fine pitch, too)
previous: soldering a surface mount resistor
